Day five of the Spring Fling and it’s time to get crafty … and organize the office area (or your craft room).
Oh, you crafters. I appreciate your talents and gifts deeply. But your natural desire to stash and hoard has made it so you can barely pull out a project and enjoy your creativity.
And those of us with offices. How is it that we can crush the business world by day, but fear a giant pile of papers crashing down on us at night?
It’s time for both groups to reclaim our creative space!
It Gets Better: Organize the Office or Craft Area
While my office is not what I want it to be, I can function in there (and that’s a lot more than I could say ten years ago).
My mom, who is an amazing quilter, has taken her decluttering to a new level. She refuses to start a new project until she has completed five she already has. I’m so proud of her and the steps she’s taking to become Clutter Free.
Instructions:
- Set up your three boxes/totes and two bags.
- Start with one area at a time.
For offices and craft rooms, the questions are: “Will I use this?” and “If I want this, where would I look for it?”
Bonus:
Want to stay Clutter Free when it comes to projects? Commit to finishing five current projects before starting anything new.
Share Your Fling
After you fling, either tell us about it or share a picture in the comments. Remember, each day (at the end of the Fling) there will be one winner, randomly drawn from the comments, who will receive a copy of The Cure for the Perfect Life from Kathi Lipp and Cheri Gregory. So share below and tell us about your fling.
I started by removing the crafting supplies from my bedroom closet (well most of them). Some I flung and some I moved to the hall closet with other craft supplies. I love seeing the empty shelf in my closet!!!
Still working on the office. However, part of the task is flinging 7 years of homeschool curriculum! Rather than pitch it, I hope to sell most of it, so this is taking more work than I had planned. Now to think of something fun to spend a portion of the curriculum earnings on…
Love this: refusing to start a new project until 5 in process projects have been completed.
So good!
Looking forward to finally making a dent in my office. Squatters that don’t belong: a broken shredder, a box of toys for a consignment sale, curtains that didn’t get returned in time, an old pillow, and others still in hiding. The kids have been put on notice to not leave their toys in here any more. This is an evening fling!
I got 50 books out my house today wow!!
I don’t have a craft room or office, but the master bedroom was used as the catch all storage room for 17 years. Removed every item from that room to prepare for moving in my mother in law tomorrow, so perfect timing for that room. Moved many items to three other rooms, flung over 500 items and stopped counting. Also, threw away and recycled about two bags. This time hubby and I worked together on that room.
I actually emptied my craft room and am going to paint it this weekend!! So my plan is to put it back together more organized!
Perfect timing as my desk needed a complete purge. I had receipts, bills, post it notes, pens, pictures, appointment cards….the list goes on! I managed to get my planner all set up for May (about time!) with all the appointments, soccer games and extras on the calendar. Bills are paid, receipts are filed or in the box to shred, random papers recycled. What a difference! I don’t have a craft room anymore since it was turned into a nursery 13 years ago. 😉
I have a desk in the basement – I used to work at so I tackled it. It still has lots of papers from a few years ago. I filled half a trash bag so definitely more than 20 items. I am loving this fling.
Woo Boy! Glad this one is on a Friday as I will need today and the next to even make a dent in either area. Starting with the desk-want to be able to at least see some of the surface by the end of today.
I got lucky with this assignment. I’m not a crafter and actually just gave away some craft supplies hiding in my closet. I do have a home office that needs work but the office is 99% my husband’s domain. In Clutter Free the dangers of just throwing out your husband’s stuff in pointed out, so I won’t make that mistake. Taking the day to catch up on the previous assignments.
Noooooooo! Not the craft stuff? Why, Kathi? Why?
OK. An hour later and I have an even bigger mess because of things that need put away and I don’t want to. I threw away 2 grocery bags and have a small box for donation. The drawers are tidier, though. I am rethinking some storage problems, too.
So true. My time is eaten away by the stacks of clutter rather than being able to craft. Tis the time!
Please don’t hate me, but I’m going to have to put today’s fling on hold. Tomorrow is my son’s birthday and my kitchen and living room need serious work! My craft supplies do need a serious overhaul and I will do it next week.
Hate is never part of the package, Theresa! I can so relate to your schedule as I have work and ministry obligations right now and need to postpone some of my flinging too. Happy birthday to your son! God will help us do it when the time is right — He’s such a great Helper! Isaiah 41:10 🙂
