Store your dishes in a lower cabinet, they are bigger anyway, and save the upper cabinets for smaller things. For the salad plates I have a little raised shelf that I can reach easily (though I can’t see it) so I can stack it over other things.
Kathi- I was listening to this one with a candle lit and doing the dishes!! Can you put the link up for the bottles you were talking about for oil? Thanks!
My tips on a clutter free kitchen are as follows:
1. I have implemented snack bins for my child – he has to eat 1 fruit, 1 veg, and 1 protein before he can get anything from the snack bars or chips bin. Each of these has their own bin to make it simple for him.
2. I use that wasted space cabinet above our fridge for anything that we rarely use.
3. I have implemented metal file bins for our potato & onions in the pantry. They are super easy to spray out. I also attached one under a cabinet near my stove where I keep my favorite cookbooks for easy access.
4. I still have a junk drawer in the kitchen but I purchased an organizer for that drawer. If it doesn’t fit in the organized space it has to go.
Thank you for your amazing tips this week. They help out so very much!
If this is the place to add our tips, here’s mine: (assuming you’re not too particular on the clutter-free status of who shares tips lol)
Hang skillets and oft-used tools from sturdy nails or appropriate hooks whenever possible to free cabinet space.
There you go! Thanks for all YOUR tips! God bless 🙂
Thanks for giving HOPE!
I’m an ADHD wife & grandmother. I have too much of everything! My problem is l like lots of things, shop only at Thrift Stores and always find too much. So l “gain” and
“maintain” by moving it around, organizing it but struggle to let it go. Then the condemnation, guilt and shame
follow. That my cycle.l never rest but “go through my stuff”
ALL the time hoping l can
“Let Go” of some stuff & just think l may need it sometime or if l had to replace my thrift store purchase at a “Real Store” it would cost LOTS.
HELP!!
Thanks for the inspiration – and for remembering those of us who handwash dishes! I’ve got a teeny kitchen and no dishwasher (I couldn’t fit one in if I wanted to!). Any tips for getting family members on board with the dishes battle? My husband believes in leaving things to drip-dry and thinks that using tea towels is unhygienic, so I never get a totally clear counter… and I’ve only got about 1.5 m2 of counter space. I’d rather not have to wash and put away 3 loads solo in the evening, so any ideas for selling him on the idea of putting things away straight away?
(PS – I live in New Zealand and I’m not eligible for the giveaway, so don’t pick me.)
Hey Megan – I’ll post the question in the Clutter free Academy Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/clutterfreeacademy/ so be sure to check the group wisdom!!!
My kitchen is the primary area of our house that I’m trying to work on right now…
My top tip is to get rid of the junk drawer. We had one in our kitchen for so many years and one day it hit that it was prime space being used for overflowing junk that never gets used. I cleared it out and started using it as a spice drawer instead and it’s so much more convenient.
The other one – it happened randomly but we started using just two (instead of 3) shelves in our refrigerator. we are now a lot more intentional about what goes in the refrigerator and making sure things are used. It has cut down on waste, on groceries (if it can’t fit, it waits) and I often find I get a night off from cooking each week because we make sure to use leftovers before cooking a new meal.
I’m looking forward to going through some cupboards now to clear out the things that rarely get used and are taking up more space than ever get used. Thanks again for a great episode!
This episode has so many great tips. Thank you!
