On today’s episode of the podcast, Kathi is joined by Melissa Maimone, author of The Radiant Midnight: Depression, Grace, and the Gifts of a Dark Place. Kathi and Melissa have an open and honest discussion around a topic that is more common to clutter than we’d like to talk about- depression.
On today’s show you’ll learn:
- Why clutter is more of a symptom than the problem
- How there are deep gifts to be found in the hard places
- Why we don’t need fixing but we need His presence

So grateful for this podcast. It was life giving tp know I am not alone in my depression. Thank you so much!
8 weeks ago, I spent 4 days in ICU after attempting to end the life I no longer wanted to live. I’ve been struggling to find God in this season of depression, in this utter darkness. Many times I prayed “end this, or end me.” He answered that prayer with a resounding “No!” and saved me for a purpose I’ve yet to discover. This podcast was divinely timed as I’m home from work and plan on tackling the piles of depression that are taking over the house.
Thank you for your honesty and transparency. And I desperately need this book.
Janee, I’m so sorry to hear of your difficult struggle. I hope you can take comfort that you are not alone in this. Others have walked through this as well. It’s such a positive step that you have taken in seeking resources of truth that will help your heart and soul. God bless you, and take one step at a time.
It was a privilege to be part of your podcast Kathi! I pray blessings upon each person who hears this podcast and relates to the feelings of fear and shame we can all struggle with. What a wonderful ministry you have! Thanks for letting me be part!
I keep trying to comment but keep getting an error. Now it’s telling me I have a duplicate comment. Sorry if you see this numerous times!
Like you & so many others who posted, I struggle with depression as well as clutter. I just never thought about them being “symptoms of” or connected with each other. It kinda makes me want to ask: “Which came first, the depression (chicken) or the clutter (egg)?” Lol!
