Life is noisy. What would happen if every day – for the next 40 days – you soaked in God’s love as He intimately whispered words of rest just for you?
Kathi talks with Bonnie Gray, author of Whispers of Rest: 40 Days of God’s Love to Revitalize Your Soul . Kathi and Bonnie discuss why it’s difficult for women to carve out time to take care of themselves. From our deep rooted need to take care of everyone else first. Even after everyone else is cared for we resist and hold back from caring for ourselves. We have a sense of guilt about taking care of our own needs.
Bonnie gives us some great suggestions on how to inject pockets time into your life to spend with God and beautiful things in your life.

I love the idea of regularly having flowers in my home!

I want to buy flowers more often. I want to sit and rest and read with my kids some throughout the day instead of just rushing through my to-do list.
Renewing my soul sounds like just what I need. I can’t seem to figure out why I rarely feel refreshed and rejuvenated. Thanks for the podcast.

All the Best,

I enjoyed listening to this podcast. It is very hard for me to get away for any time for myself since I am mother to two special needs children and also help care for my elderly parents from time to time. But I really like how Bonnie says you can inject pockets of time into your day with God. I would like to learn more practical ways to make that happen. Today I spent a little time working on a quilting project and it felt great!
On a side note, my maiden name was Bonnie Brown 🙂
While mowing the lawn I tend to admire God’s handiwork and try to spend time in speaking to God.
I will listen and worship, I need that…I try to multitask too much listen to lots of podcasts while cleaning and getting ready… I think I need to rest my mind
My hubby and I are going to get a fire pit for our back yard. Then, when the kids are in bed, we can sit and relax by the fire and talk! I can’t wait!
I’ve been a flower lover since I was a little girl admiring my mom’s garden, so “hosting” fresh flowers is a typical concept for me. And as a worship leader I’m constantly listening to worship music wherever I go. I love and appreciate both of these ideas for rekindling rest in our lives! It would be wonderful to read about more of Bonnie’s ideas in her book. Someone recently gave me some spa therapy sea salt, so I think this summer it would be restful to take a warm bath w/ some mellow music playing, and aromatic candles flickering their light across the room 🙂
I love this. Simple ways to bring God to mind in little ways 🙂 I would love to learn more. I will fill my home with music to remind me of how much I love Him and He loves me.
Sit on our deck at our pond with a book or just watch my hubs fish.
I will sit at my favorite spot, on the white swing on my lovely screened-in porch. I usually have a good book in my hand and a quart jar of water near by.
This book sounds like a great addition to the homeschool mom who needs a bit of rest in her busy day. I find a place to go, like a park bench, a pond away from the crowd, a hill or a quiet escape – a place that gives God my full attention. This way I train my mind to focus on His Word. One caveat is to use a physical Bible, not a digital one because the mobile phone is a pervasive time-suck and can steer us away from true fellowship with God.
During spring, summer and fall, I try to go at least every other Saturday afternoon to the lake and just sit there enjoying the beauties of nature and just unwind. It feels almost like a worship service as I sit there and bask in the beauty. But Bonnie’s idea of having flowers to look at and remember the love God has for me sounds like something I can do in the meantime.
I’m a Children’s Pastor who just finished up Vacation Bible School. Typically, I schedule rest afterward, but this time I didn’t, and I’m starting to feel the ramifications of it. Our church office is closed on Monday, and I’m going to spend time in the Word and walking the mall to pray for people I pass.
I listened to this podcast last night while I was walking and I loved listening to Bonnie talk about the book. I had ordered the book a while back and intended on doing the study and responding to the topics on her facebook page. I got caught up in other studies and didn’t stay on top of this but this morning, after listening to the podcast, I opened up the book and started fresh. It is so refreshing and Bonnie is so in tune with the Lord. Thank you for hosting her on your podcast. I love, love, love listening to your podcasts and how you are always uplifting others! You rock, Kathi Lipp!!
The thought of spending more time soaking up Jesus sounds so refreshing and relaxing! I can see myself sitting on my porch swing reading this book enjoying my quiet time
I would love a copy of this book. My focus this summer is on learning more about self-care and Self-Compassion. This sounds like the perfect read to help me to grow in this area.
I also really liked the idea of buying flowers, or at least finding them in our yard and cutting them, and placing them on our kitchen table, etc. I instantly thought of my daughter, who’s 7, and how she will probably also be affected because she loves pretty things and flowers, etc. Our Farmer’s Market sells flower bunches, some very interesting-looking, for about $5, so I think I can splurge! I’ve always considered it a splurge (I should not spend our money on things we don’t need, right?), but hearing how it benefits bringing our hearts and minds towards God and bringing peace…that’s worth it! Thank you!
Would love to receive a copy of this book. I Need Rest In my life. Would love to have a book to give me Ideas on how to accomplish that. Am going to start Enjoying and placing flowers in my home. Thank you for guidance and insight!!!!!!
Worship music and flowers are definitely feasible for me. Flowers EVERYWHERE and I’ll want my house to stay in order. ?
I think I’m going to start getting flowers regularly. I can totally relate to not wanting to spend the extra money on them….and I hate having to throw them out a week later…but I do love to have them on my coffee table.
